This watercolour by Sydney artist Paul Delprat
depicts Lawrence bathing in the Pacific Ocean at Thirroul south
of Sydney. It is part of a series of paintings by Delprat of Lawrence
at Thirroul
Paul Delprat is the principal of the Julian
Ashton Art School which was founded by his great-grandfather, Julian
Rossi Ashton. Paul studied drawing and painting at the School which
is in the historic Rocks area of Sydney. He particularly enjoys
painting the human female figure, and is also a highly-regarded
portrait painter.
He has worked as adviser and artist on two
Norman Lindsay films: Age of Consent, starring James Mason
and Helen Mirren, and Sirens, starring Hugh Grant and Elle
Macpherson.
Paul is a member of the D.H. Lawrence Society
of Australia.
